about

About the title:

'Complete loss. Part one.' I think there will be more parts. But I also like the idea that complete loss is incomplete, right from the outset.

About the project:

This is just a Michael L. Clamp release. Making this, for me, is part-experiment, part-diversion. There really *is* a new Lazarus Clamp on the way ('How I Quit Being'), but months ago I got bored of waiting for the artwork issues to be resolved, and I began making some home recordings. To make them, I used a kind of 'rule' structure for each recording. The rules were things like 'Use someone else's words,' 'Never sing and play at the same time,' or 'Use something metal' ("Sad song of the appliances" is a duet with a washing machine) or 'First takes only' ("Concertina overbored" is all first takes). To begin with, I layered the rules up - there were four for each recording. But I kept breaking them, so I decided to follow my nose, and I just used one rule per recording. 'Part one' includes two of those recordings, which I like, and which sit together nicely. There are lots more in various states of disrepair.
